History & Artisans

This basket is woven by artisan families from Michoacán, Mexico, who work with fibers such as bulrush and chuspata, aquatic plants obtained from the region's lakes. The bulrush is dried in the sun and then moistened before weaving to regain flexibility. Each piece is carefully handcrafted, incorporating braided handles and preserving traditional weaving techniques.
